1843 Memorials provides an important service to a family at the most difficult time in their lives. We help families discover and communicate an enduring story of a loved one’s life through memorialization. Memorials are a final expression of love and serve to connect generations of families. We are a family-owned business that has operated continuously since 1843 and is the premier supplier of memorials, headstones, gravestones, tombstones, cemetery monuments and mausoleums in the greater Philadelphia area.
Our business traces its roots to Derbyshire England. The original founder of the company came to America in response to advertisements for stone cutters to work on the Girard Estate. The business set up shop at the northeast corner of 10th and Federal Streets in South Philadelphia in 1843.
Many years have passed and many changes have impacted our business, but one thing remains constant and that is our family understands and deeply respects its role in the healing and closure process. It is a commitment that our family does not take lightly. Our values of hard work, caring relationships, community involvement, and delivering on our promises have pulled us through our own difficult times. The current generation of family members “temporarily” joined the business during the sudden and tragic passing of their mother. The boys rallied around their father to deliver headstones and engraving services to families in need even as their own mother passed away. Their “temporary” involvement was over 20 years ago and the boys are still working shoulder to shoulder with their father today.
Today, 1843 Memorials serves its customers from two locations in Upper Darby and Philadelphia, PA.
We can also meet you in the cemetery, come to your home or anywhere convenient.
